18 - 329 homes to be built on new North Priory estate

Archived news release from 2007

Plans to build more than 300 homes on the new North Priory estate have been announced.

The plans are part of exciting regeneration proposals put forward by Bromford Housing Group to transform the North Priory estate and create a balanced, vibrant and sustainable new community.

Bromford Housing Group were one of seven registered social landlords (RSL) invited to bid for the project and four were received.  Following presentations from each RSL to an evaluation panel made up of council officers, members and residents, Bromford Housing Group has been selected to work with Dudley Council to redevelop the North Priory estate.

Their bid proposed 329 new homes to be built on the site of which 35 percent would be social rented properties, five percent shared ownership and the remaining 60 percent would be for private sale.

Other features of the bid included a range of house types including two bed bungalows and two, three and four bed houses, built to a high environmental and safety standard.

Residents will also be invited to have their say on the design of the estate and its future management. There is a commitment from Bromford to offer training and employment opportunities for the local community and to provide a community facility.

Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing, said:
“Securing a registered social landlord to work with us is a major step forward in the redevelopment of North Priory.  Working with Bromford Housing Group we will achieve our aim of delivering quality homes to residents.

“In the next six months, the council will work closely with Bromford to firm up proposals and proceed to contract for the disposal of the land.”

Helen Collins, Executive Director for Bromford, added: “We are really excited to have been selected to deliver this major regeneration in Dudley. We are looking forward to working with our partners, Dudley Borough Council and creating a range of new affordable homes for local residents“
