Toilet cleaners at Dudley’s marketplace, Sue Rollinson, Brenda Garrington and Brian Webb celebrate their success.
Toilet cleaners in Dudley are flushed with pride after two public toilet blocks in the borough were named four star facilities by a national body.
The public toilet block at Dudley’s marketplace and the block in Meriden Avenue in Wollaston, Stourbridge received the accolade in the recent Loo of the Year Awards.
The Loo of the Year Awards, which cover all council owned and privately run public toilets, are supported by the British Toilet Association.
In addition to the two blocks receiving four star awards the attendant team were also presented with an Attendant of the Year Award.
The ratings were given following unannounced inspections carried out by independent inspectors in recent months. Following the inspections Dudley Council’s team were invited to the awards evening at the national motorcycle museum in Dudley on December 5.
Councillor Angus Adams, lead member for street cleansing, said:
“I’m really pleased that the staff have been recognised in this way through the awards scheme. I’m delighted the two public toilet blocks have been named as four star facilities but we know there is plenty of work to do to keep these standards up.”
The award follows on from the council’s street cleansing team being named best performer in the country earlier this week. The team which sweeps roads, cleans up graffiti and helps remove fly-tipping received the accolade of best performer in this year’s Association of Public Service Excellence awards (APSE).
