21 - Calling all young consumers

Dudley Council is urging secondary schools and colleges to sign up for the annual Young Consumers of the Year 2008 competition. 

 

This will be the third year borough youngsters aged between 14 and 17 battle it out over questions on consumer, environment, finance and world issues as well as health & safety. 

 

 

“This has always proved a popular competition and I’ve been very impressed with the level of knowledge of consumer issues demonstrated by our borough youngsters.

 

“I would encourage all schools to think about putting a team into the local heats. It is a fantastic opportunity for young people, our consumers of the future, to pit their wits against others in this fun and informative competition.

Last year the Crestwood School beat six other teams locally to go on and represent the borough at regional level where they achieved a very respectable second place. 

 

The 2008 local heats are planned for March. Regional heats will be held during April and the national final will take place June 24 and 26.  The venue for the 2008 final is Bournemouth’s International Centre where teams from schools across the country will battle it out for the £1,000 top price.

 

The competition, organised by the Trading Standards Institute, is set in a quiz show atmosphere, complete with question master, scorekeeper and adjudicator.
