Archived news release from 2007

Pupils and teachers at Dudley borough primary schools are celebrating after national tables showed that the large majority continue to meet national expectations.

The latest Key Stage Two results, which show the academic achievements of 11-year-olds in the key subject of English, maths and science, were released today (Thurs).

The figures show that that 79 per cent of Dudley pupils achieved a level 4 in English, which is the national expectation. Meanwhile 32 per cent achieved higher than the national expectation by attaining a level 5.

In maths, 74 per cent of pupils achieved level 4 while 30 per cent attained a level 5. And an impressive 87 per cent of pupils recorded a level 4 in science while 45 per cent were above the national expectations with a level 5.

Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“We are delighted with this latest set of results which shows that Dudley pupils are achieving well. I would like to offer my congratulations to all the pupils, parents and of course the school and local authority staff whose hard work has been rewarded with these results.”

The results put Dudley in the top three performing authorities in the West Midlands in each of the three key subject areas.

Top performing schools in science included Alder Coppice, Blanford Mere, Dawley Brook, Greenfield, Ham Dingle, Maidensbridge, Manor Way and St Josephs RC in Stourbridge, where 100 per cent of pupils achieved level four.

In English Greenfield again reached the maximum 100 per cent score while top maths performers were Maidensbridge, Our Lady and St Kenelm RC and St Chad’s RC, who all achieved 97 per cent.
