Brierley Hill resident Dorothy Fellows is celebrating after winning a prestigious Good Neighbour award.
The High Rise Living Forum’s Good Neighbour competition is organised by Dudley Council in conjunction with DFTRA (Dudley Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations). All residents from high rise accommodation across Dudley borough are invited to take part in the annual Good Neighbour award, nominating their own good neighbours.
Diane Channings, assistant director of housing at Dudley Council said:
“The idea of the award is to recognise local people of any age who have regularly voluntarily helped others within their community. This could be someone who helps their neighbours with odd jobs or shopping, someone who helps develop community relations or just someone who generally assists and looks out for their neighbours.”
Winner Dorothy impressed the judges with her tireless commitment to helping her less able neighbours. She helps with their shopping, cooking, laundry and has cared for neighbours on their own, when they have returned home from hospital stays. Overall Dorothy is well known by her neighbours as a lady who will do anything for anyone.
Dorothy is also an active member of her local tenants and residents association – Chapel Street TRA, working hard to improve her local community.
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing said:
“I’d like to congratulate Mrs Fellows on her achievement. It is important that we recognise and appreciate people like her, unsung heroes who work hard, giving their own time freely for the benefit of their communities.”
