Pedestrian access to Halesowen is being improved with the introduction of a new footpath on Queensway.
The current bus lane has been blocked off to reduce Queensway to one lane for a short distance eastbound between Summer Hill and Pool Road to create the path.
It will remain in place for the duration of the £30 million regeneration of the town.
Councillor Angus Adams, cabinet member for transportation said:
“This multi-million pound regeneration to build a better Halesowen is progressing very well.
“However we accept that there will be some disruption along the way and we ask businesses and shoppers to bear with us. We are always looking to make improvements to help people move easily around the town and this new footpath will improve access for pedestrians.”
Vale Retail, Centro-WMPTA and Dudley Council are working together to deliver the exciting plans, which will breathe new life into the town.
They include a new Asda store, shop unit, a Secure by Design multi-storey car park, a state-of-the-art £3.5 million bus station and a new road layout with improved pedestrian crossing facilities.
The 18 month project is due to be completed by Christmas 2008.
