Dudley Safeguarding Children Board and safe & sound, Dudley’s community safety partnership, are encouraging parents and carers to be aware of what their child is doing online this Christmas.
With internet and digital technologies being bought as gifts for children, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre are offering a range of useful advice and information about staying safe on the internet.
Parents and carers can register on the ThinkUKnow website to receive monthly news bulletins, which tells them about new technologies, emerging risks and safety tips to help them keep their children safe online.
As well as being able to sign up to monthly news bulletins the site also offers useful advice on social networking, grooming, mobiles and gaming.
Councillor Anne Millward, cabinet member for community safety, said:
“The internet is part of everyday life for all of us, but there are risks that parents and carers need to be aware of. It’s not about preventing children from social networking or using the internet, but ensuring they do so safely. I would encourage people to take a look at the site and pick up the useful safety tips.”
