The quality of adult social care offered in Dudley has been rated as one of the best in the country by a national organisation.
And hundreds of staff who have helped the council meet these high standards have been rewarded at an annual awards ceremony.
The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) has named Dudley a top three star authority. It also rated the council’s adult social care teams as ‘excellent’ at delivering outcomes for vulnerable people with an ‘excellent’ capacity for improvement.
The outstanding results put Dudley Council’s service in the top 18 across the whole country.
Meanwhile more than 300 council employees have celebrated their academic achievements and outstanding contributions at the annual SMILE awards ceremony.
The staff from the directorate of adult, community and housing were nominated for a SMILE award for their commitment to delivering high quality services or for achieving a professional qualification during the last six months.
Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for adult and community services, said:
“I congratulate all staff in adult social care and those who support them. They have worked very hard to achieve such a fantastic result in the CSCI rating. Their work involves them in many difficult situations, some of which are heart-breaking. It’s all the more a credit to them, then, to know that their work is judged to be of such a high standard and they can know that they are amongst the best in the country.
“I would also like to congratulate all those in the directorate of adult, community and housing services who have received a SMILE award.”
CSCI publish their inspection results annually, with three stars, being awarded to the best performing authorities. There are a total of 48 councils in the country awarded three stars while 74 received two and 28 one star.
CSCI inspect and report on care services and councils. It is an independent body but is set up by the government to improve social care and stamp out bad practice.
