All of Dudley’s housing stock is to be fitted with central heating and energy saving measures in a £10 million scheme.
Over the next three yearsnew central heating will be offered to tenants in the remaining 1500 unheated council-owned homes and replacement systems put in to replace those that are beyond economic repair.
In a report to go before next week’s cabinet, there are proposalsto address climate change and energy efficiency by spending £1.4m over the three years to replace electric night storage heating with efficient gas heating to some 450 homes, where the impact upon energy efficiency and climate change will be greatest.
A further £500,000 will be spent on ensuring all council properties will now receive cavity wall insulation.
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing, said:
‘Our commitment to continually looking for ways to increase energy efficiency and reduce the burden on climate change is evident in these proposals. We are very proud of our record.’
