There’s even more reasons for youngsters to get out and about this half term with the completion of new play facilities at a Quarry Bank park.
The extension to the existing play area and creation of an informal cricket pitch at Stevens Park has been funded through the liveability scheme. It’s in addition to a new multi-use games area (MUGA) and skate ramps built there last year.
The improvements follow consultation with the local community, by the friends of Stevens Park who scooped £79,485 through the liveability scheme.
Access to the play area has been designed to be Disability Discrimination Act compliant and a picnic bench which has been designed for wheelchair users has been installed.
Councillor Charles Fraser Macnamara, cabinet member for culture and leisure, said:
“The extension to the play area will be a great addition to Stevens Park in Quarry Bank. I’m sure it will keep youngsters busy during the coming half-term holiday.”
Dudley Council was one of just 27 authorities across the country picked to share a slice of £89 million through the government’s Liveability Fund.
Its focus is on community involvement, empowering people to become champions for their parks. It has proved a massive success and there are now 26 friends groups and some fantastic projects completed or under way.
