6 - Friends group plants oak trees at Bluebell Park

The Friends of Wrens Nest are organising a tree-planting event to improve the woodland diversity at Bluebell Park in Dudley this month (Feb).

The event will be held on February 23 from 10.30am to 2pm at the park off Priory Road.

The Friends of Wren’s Nest work alongside Dudley Council wardens and carry out a variety of nature conservation tasks on the reserve throughout the year. Each new oak tree will be sponsored by a member of the friends and planted in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special event.

Councillor Charles Fraser Macnamara, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said:
“A similar event last year was extremely successful and it is hoped that the planting of more native oaks this year will greatly improve the woodland diversity and encourage more bluebells.”

To participate in the tree planting, members of the public must first become a member of the friends group by phoning the membership secretary on 07768 487382 (membership is only £3 per year).  Alternatively you can phone to pledge a donation for a tree to be planted on your behalf by the Wrens Nest wardens.
