Green waste collections will re-start in Dudley borough on March 17 following the winter break.
The 100,000 borough residents who are now part of the scheme will shortly be receiving their new calendars, detailing when their fortnightly collections will be this year.
Dudley Council launched the hugely successful scheme in April 2006. All borough residents will be able to receive collections by the end of March this year as the council completes its distribution of the green bins.
The extremely popular scheme has been on hold over the winter when demand for the green waste service drops but with spring now on its way the council has announced the service will resume from March 17.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment, said:
“The green waste scheme has been a big success over the last couple of years since its introduction. I hope existing customers will again make the most of the service from March through to the winter and I’m sure our many new customers will also be pleased to take advantage of it.”
The bins are used to collect recyclable green waste and are collected fortnightly. Waste that is accepted includes weeds, hedge and grass clippings, cut flowers, twigs and small branches, leaves and shrubs and spent compost.
But kitchen and food waste, plastic bags, plant pots, soil, stone, rubble, tree trunks, fencing, wood waste, animal waste and other general rubbish must not be put in the bins.
Bins will only be collected if they are left out by 7.30am on the day of collection. Residents are asked to ensure lids are down and handles facing out towards the pavement. The bin should be left at the edge of the property next to the pavement. These measures greatly help the efficiency of the operation.
