1 - Kids crafts at the Red House Glass Cone

Young visitors to the Red House Glass Cone’s Valentine’s Craft Market this weekend can turn their hand to a spot of glassmaking.

New education artists in residence Shelagh Swanson and Karl Harron will be running the free craft activity for youngsters. Children can work with them to create their own swizzle sticks which are decorative twisted glass rods. These make perfect keepsakes or gifts for family.

The two-day event on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 February runs from 11am to 4pm. Admission is free. A valentine’s children’s craft activity is available for £1 per child where youngsters can decorate a heart shaped box and fill it with chocolate.

The stalls all offer gifts with a special Valentines theme.  These include novelty glass items, watercolours, jewellery, bags, scarves, leather purses, bangles and belts. There will also be distinctive glass gifts produced by the resident glass artists.

Councillor Charles Fraser Macnamara, cabinet member for leisure and culture said:
“This Valentine’s Craft market is set to go down well with adults and children alike. The different craft activities on offer should keep youngsters amused.”
