The Perfect Harmony Women’s group in Lye is staging a day of learning and fun on Tuesday 4 March for International Women’s Week.
The day is being co-ordinated by Dudley Council’s adult and community learning team. It’s an opportunity for women to get together, enjoy each other’s company and learn about each other’s cultures. The focus of the day is on celebrating achievements and working towards new aspirations and ambitions. There will be stalls, activities and a chance to speak to a range of advisers.
There’ll be reflexology and massage, manicure, arts and craft sessions and exercise sessions including bollywood dance and an informal bellydancing session from Dudley’s own Queen of Culture, Pat Wakelam.
Dudley Primary Care Trust will be on hand to give advice about diet and exercise and there’ll be healthy food from around the world made by the Perfect Harmony ladies.
There will also be advice on women returning to work and the support available in terms of training and childcare options.
The fire service will be promoting free safety home checks, giving out information on replacing dangerous chip pans with new deep fat fryers and handing out safety blankets.
Representatives from Dudley libraries will be on site to promote world book day on 6 March.
This local event has gone from small beginnings to become a regular part of a recognised international event. Women who took part in the first Ladies Day in Lye in 2004 formed the group.
This is the fourth year that Dudley Council’s adult and community learning team has worked with members of the local community to stage this event. There will be displays from adult education, learning disability and mental heath groups who will be showcasing their work.
The event runs from 11.30am to 2pm at Lye Community Centre, Cross Walks Road, Lye. For more information call Kathy Glazzard 01384 813960.
