Dudley Council’s land charges team faced stiff competition recently at the finals of the 2008 LocalLand Charges Awards.
The national awards organised by C-NLIS (Council for the National Land and Property Information Service) recognise the work of local authorities who have provided an outstanding service in the local land charges industry in the last 12 months.
Dudley’s land charges team carry out local searches for people buying a property or piece of land in Dudley borough. The team has held the charter mark for excellence in customer service since 1992 and has a 100 percent record for meeting its target of completing a search within six working days.
The team was shortlisted in two categories, the customer satisfaction award for personal searches and the customer satisfaction award for local authority searchesafter customers up and down the country voted for the best land charges team.
Despite narrowly missing out on the top prize the team was presented with finalist awards in both categories in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions during the year.
Councillor Pat Martin, cabinet member for law and property, said:
“This is a great result for the team. Buying a new home or plot of land can be a stressful time so excellent customer service from the local land charges team goes a long way in making the process much easier.
Information about how searches are carried out in Dudley borough has been included in a best practice pack for other local authorities.
