29 - Mayor nets money for charity

Young footballers scored a tour of the Mayor’s parlour when they presented Dudley’s first citizen with cash for his charities.

Councillor David Stanley, Mayor of the borough, invited players from Kewford Eagles to the council house for a peek behind the scenes.

The club also handed over £305 which they had raised during a charity football match earlier this year.

They were treated to a tour of the Mayor’s parlour, the main council chamber and were given a talk by the Mayor on the history of the borough.

The money raised will be split between the Mayor’s official charities – the RNLI and Dudley Alzheimer’s Society.

Councillor David Stanley, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I really enjoyed meeting the young people who had gone out of their way to help raise this money for two very worthwhile charities.”

The money was raised during Kewford Eagles Chairman’s Charity Cup Match, between two teams of managers at their Wall Heath home ground.

Colin Worthington, club chairman and recent winner of Dudley Council’s Sports Volunteer of the Year Award, said:

“We are a local community club and we were extremely proud to raise this money for the Mayor’s charities.”

If anyone would like to make donations to the Mayor’s charities they can contact the Mayor’s secretary, Council House, Priory Road, Dudley, DY1 1HF.
