Dudley Council’s youth service is recruiting 13-19 year olds to form a panel who will be responsible for allocating £338,000.
Dudley has succeeded in securing the cash from the government’s Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) and Youth Capital Fund (YCF). The panel of young people will decide which projects that provide ‘things to do and places to go’ will receive support.
The project places responsibility firmly in the hands of young people letting them decide what activities or facilities they need in their local communities. This is in third year that funding has been available and will continue until 2011. Over 300 projects have already been set up in the borough including residential trips, DJ-ing, sports and arts projects, as well as larger capital projects like a mobile workshop to teach young people about mechanics.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“Members of the panel will receive full training and support on how to assess applications and decide how the funding should be given out. There will be an opportunity to take part in team building, residential trips, social events, meet new people, attend meetings and road shows and visit projects. The young people involved with this worthwhile project will have a great chance to gain valuable experience and will receive recognition and accreditation for their work.”
Any young people interested in joining the panel for 2008 should attend on Tuesday 19 Feb. 6 to 8pm at The Savoy Centre, Northfield Road, Netherton. For further information contact Jody Pritchard on 01384 815172.
