Dudley schoolchildren and staff are celebrating after national league tables showed their performance is on the up again.
The achievement and attainment tables for key stage three (14-year-olds) were released today (Thurs). The figures show the percentage of Dudley pupils achieving the expected level in english, maths and science has been either improved or maintained.
The results make Dudley the top performer in the Black Country and second only to Solihull in the West Midlands region. The new figures have also seen Dudley’s standing in the national league table of local authorities in relation to average points score increase.
The percentage of pupils reaching the expected national level in english went up from 71% last year to 75% this year. In maths the percentage of pupils remained the same as last year at 74%, while science figures went up to 73% from 71%. The figures mean Dudley’s aggregate of test percentages is higher than ever before with a score of 221 compared to 217 last year out of 300.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“We are extremely proud of the results achieved by our pupils this year as we have improved yet again. I would like to congratulate all of the staff, parents and pupils and hope they can continue these excellent results on into their GCSE exams.”
Meanwhile in terms of relative progress made, borough schools have also made significant improvements on last year. Figures show this year Dudley scored 100.2 compared to 99.2 in the contextual value added ratings. These figures relate to a measure of progress made by the pupils between key stage 2 (11-year-olds) and key stage three (14-year-olds).
The top point scoring schools in terms of progress were Rosewood School (104), The High Arcal School (102), The Brier School (101.6), The Kingswinford School (101.4), Old Swinford Hospital (101.3) and The Summerhill School (101).
A number of borough schools also deserve praise in terms of the highest percentage of pupils reaching the expected national level. Old Swinford Hospital received 100% for both English and Maths and 99% in science while The Kingswinford School received 93% for English and Maths and 94% for science. The Summerhill School received 97% in English, 89% in Maths and 90% science.
Schools that showed great improvement on last year’s results included Ellowes Hall which got 77% for English (69% last year), 76% for maths (75% last year) and 75% for science (66% last year). Pedmore Technology College received 75% for English (62% last year), 72% for maths (69% last year) and 70% for science (63% last year). Meanwhile Hillcrest got 74% for English (57% last year), 71% for maths (59% last year) and 66% for science (58% last year).
