Essential work to reconstruct the Queensway during the multi-million-pound regeneration of Halesowen will take place in April.
The temporary closure of High Street and Queensway, from the High Street car park to Hagley Road, was due to take place from March 8 for this vital and urgent repair work.
However, this additional work will now take place after Easter to minimise disruption to the town during this busy period and it will be incorporated into the regeneration scheme.
It is now anticipated the closure will take place in early April and should be completed by the middle of the month.
Both on-street parking fronting St John’s Church and Maybrook House car park will be out of use during the closure period, however the High Street car park will remain open. Additional parking will also be available at Andrew Road car park and Pool Road multi-storey car park.
During the closure, regeneration partners Vale Retail, Centro-WMPTA and Dudley Council will work with bus operators to provide alternative stopping points in the town to minimise disruption to customers.
Councillor Angus Adams, cabinet member for transportation, said:
“We apologise to businesses, visitors and shoppers for the disruption while this essential reconstruction work takes place.
“The work will now take place after Easter so as not to disrupt the town during this busy Easter period and we ask people to bear with us as we work to build a better Halesowen.”
Vale Retail, Centro-WMPTA and Dudley Council are working together to deliver the £30 million regeneration, which will breathe new life into the town. The transformation includes a new larger supermarket by Asda, shop units, a Secure by Design multi-storey car park, a state-of-the-art £3.5 million bus station and a new road layout with improved pedestrian crossing facilities. The 18 month project is due to be completed by Christmas 2008.
