More than £24 million is to be injected into improving the repairs and maintenance service for Dudley Council tenants.
In a report to go before cabinet next week, the proposals include improving the responsive repairs service standard, which will see about 15,000 urgent repairs being carried out within three working days instead of the current seven days.
This will include some urgent jobs such as plumbing, drainage work, or making safe storm-damaged fencing. The remaining responsive repairs and maintenance will be carried out within current established service standards.
It also proposes to improve current standards on cyclical repairs such as external painting, following feedback from residents. For the first time the council will undertake to paint the external rendering of properties, where required, on a five-year basis
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing, said:
‘Our commitment to ensuring all our properties meet the Decent Homes Standard by 2010 is just one of our obligations as a responsible landlord. We are continually consulting with our tenants to ensure that the repairs and maintenance service we provide is working to tenant priorities as well.’
