7 - Work continues to regenerate the North Priory area

Bromford Housing Association has been selected as the preferred bidder to move forward with exciting plans to regenerate the North Priory area.

At next week’s cabinet meeting members will be asked to approve the decision, which followed a rigorous selection process. The association will work in partnership with Haslam Homes, Dudley Council and partners to redevelop the area.

The council, residents, councillors, and an independent tenants advisor are working closely together to ensure the North Priory estate is regenerated to create a desirable place to live, with homes suitable for the whole community now, and in the future.

The plans include building 329 homes of which 35 per cent would be social rented properties, five per cent shared ownership and the remaining 60 percent would be for private sale.

There will be a range of house types, including two bed bungalows and two, three and four bed houses, built to a high environmental and safety standard.

Residents will also be invited to have their say on the design of the estate and its future management. There is a commitment from Bromford to offer training and employment opportunities for the local community and to provide a community facility.

The council has already begun re-housing residents living in the immediate area and demolition of the existing estate is planned for next year, with construction of the new estate in 2012.

Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing, said:
“Securing a registered social landlord to work with us is a major step forward in the redevelopment of North Priory.  By working with Bromford Housing Group we will achieve our aim of delivering quality homes to residents.

“In the next six months, the council will work closely with Bromford to firm up proposals as we can press ahead with these exciting plans to regenerate the area.’

Helen Collins, executive director for Bromford, added:

“We are really excited to have been selected to deliver this major regeneration project in Dudley. We are looking forward to working with our partners, Dudley Council and creating a range of new affordable homes for local residents“
