30 - £1.2 million contract moves system into the 21st century

Dudley Council’s £1.2 million bid to update existing warden call systems and install new facilities continues to go from strength to strength.

Subcontractor, Cirrus Communication Systems Ltd, have completed work at three of Dudley Council’s sheltered housing schemes.

Work commenced after the contract was awarded in September 2007 with Church View (Lower Gornal), Joe Jones Court (Sedgley) and Beulah Court (Halesowen) being the first schemes to receive the updated equipment.

The warden call system provides older and vulnerable residents with the knowledge that help is at the end of the button.  The system provides customers with a range of innovative, yet non intrusive, monitors which are fitted to their homes. These can range from emergency contact and alarm buttons to flood detectors and fall sensors. The technology is all connected to the council’s round-the-clock emergency call and response service who will contact the appropriate person or emergency service to respond should any of the alarms be activated.

Work started on January 2nd to the remaining three sites of Holloway Court (Halesowen), Grange Court (Stourbridge) and Woodhouse Court (Quarry Bank) which required updating.  All other 3,000 individual properties who have taken up the opportunity to have the dispersed system installed will be contacted shortly and work will begin in February.

Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for housing, said:
“Cirrus Communication Systems Ltd won the contract after it was put out as part of the procedurement process and won on the basis of value for money and customer care.  The £1.2 million pound contract will ensure all warden call systems are fit for purpose at all times as it includes a provision for servicing and maintenance.  We want to ensure our residents know that help is at the touch of a button.”
