A rapping robot will give recycling a big plug when he visits youngsters in Dudley next week.
Recycler the robot will educate pupils from 10 primary schools across the borough on the importance of reusing, reducing and recycling with his entertaining act from Monday 21 – Thursday 24 January.
Dudley Council’s recycling team has organised the visits as part of the robot’s national tour, which has been set up by Waste Watch, WRAP and Recycle Now. It’s hoped the tour, funded by Health Promoting Schools, will help children from all across the country see how they can make a real difference at home and at school.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment, said:
“It's really important to get the green message across to children so we've picked 10 schools for the rapping robot to visit.
“We hope the children will then take the recycling message home, and encourage their parents to take part in Dudley's black box recycling scheme.”
Shirley Barre, education officer from Waste Watch said:
“Every household in the UK throws away over one tonne of waste each year and more than half of this can be recycled.
”Recycler raps to the children all about recycling and what they can do to help. The children quickly pick it up and join in and it’s a great way to remember important messages and take them home.”
