25 - Halesowen children get fit the funky way

Children in Halesowen are getting into shape the funky way thanks to a new fitness programme that’s being run at Halesowen Leisure Centre.

The funky fitness class involves dancing, hoola hooping, cheer leading and combat and is part of a new range of children’s activities on offer at the Dudley Council run facility.

It’s hoped the programme for youngsters, which also includes street dancing and family aqua, will help tackle obesity issues by encouraging local children to get active.

Funky fitness is an hourly session suitable for 11 – 16 year-olds of all abilities. The session runs every Tuesday from 4.30pm and costs £3 including a free swim afterwards.

Street dance is a 45-minute session for 11 – 16 year-olds. The intermediate level class, which encourages youngsters to choreograph their own dances with the instructor, runs every Tuesday from 5.30pm. Classes cost £3 including a free swim afterwards.

Family aqua is a session, which is suitable for all ages from seven upwards and allows families to exercise together in the water. The class is for all abilities and non-swimmers are welcome. The session runs from 7.30pm – 8.15pm every Thursday and costs £3 for adults and £1.50 for under 16s.

Class instructors are fully trained and qualified and take up is expected to be high so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
