28 - Borough residents commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day

Local people are invited to add their thoughts to a borough poem in memory of World War Two prisoners of war.

Staff at Stourbridge Library started a poem last week to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day (January 27) and are asking local people to visit the library and add lines to the poem in memory of those who lost their lives at the Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau.

People will be able to add lines to the poem until February 16.  Once the poem is complete it will be displayed at the library as part of an exhibition during February.   The poem will then be displayed in the library’s poetry corner.

Councillor Michael Evans, the cabinet member responsible for libraries, said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day gives us all the opportunity to take time to remember those who have lost their lives during conflict.  I would urge local people of all ages to go to Stourbridge Library and share their thoughts with fellow residents.”

The library is open Monday from 9.30am to 7pm, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9am to 7pm and on Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

For more information about the poem contact the library on 01384 812949.
