A free training course set to develop carers’ communication and lobbying skills will be available later this month.
Carers Voice is one of many courses organised by Dudley Council to give people who care for a relative or friend with a disability or long term illness more training and education opportunities during 2008.
Carers UK will lead the free course, which is designed for carers who are keen to campaign for their rights or get involved in local groups and committees in order to influence the way services are planned and delivered.
During the two days carers will develop communication and lobbying skills to help them become more confident and assertive when campaigning, delivering presentations and talking to decision makers.
It will run on Wednesday 23 to Thursday 24 January from 11.30am to 2pm at Stourbridge College. Carers must attend both sessions.
Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for adult and community services, said:
“Dudley Council is working with a range of national and local organisations to offer carers a number of opportunities to develop their skills during 2008.”
To book a place or to find out if this course is suitable contact Christine Rowley, Dudley Council’s carers’ coordinator on 01384 818723.
Lunch will be provided and travel expenses paid. Alternative care costs will be paid for participants who need to someone to look after the person they care for.
