Potentially life saving ICE cards have proved a huge success across Dudley after 10,000 were picked up by residents and community groups following their launch last September.
Dudley Council has produced the ICE (In Case of Emergency) cards for people to carry with them at all times. The credit card sized cards include a list of first aid tips and the contact details of a relative or friend of the person who can be contacted in an emergency.
And in just four months the first 10,000 ICE cards, which can be kept in purses, handbags or wallets, were claimed by local people. A further supply of the cards are now available from the council.
Councillor David Caunt, leader of the council, said:
“The ICE cards are free and are definitely a worthwhile addition to anybody’s purse, handbag or wallet. If anyone was in an emergency situation the card would tell others who is best to contact and give first aid tips. We are pleased to hear how well received they have been so far and we hope this success will continue.”
Friends or relatives who are contacted may be able to tell a member of the public or emergency services vital information concerning the person. Without the ICE card people are left with no way to contact someone who could provide crucial information.
ICE cards are available from Dudley Council Plus in Castle Street, Dudley, all council libraries and area offices.
