4 - Mayor nets money for charity

The Mayor of Dudley scored a winner when he netted proceeds from an annual football match for his charities.

Mayor, Councillor David Stanley, was invited to the Kewford Eagles Chairman’s Charity Football Match on Sunday (DEC 30).
The annual event sees two teams of coaches and managers from the club play against each other for charity.

This year’s game raised around £200 which will go to the Mayor’s charities – the RNLI and Dudley Alzheimer’s Society.
And the Mayor picked up two bottles of wine in a double win on the raffle which he says he is also adding to the charities.

Councillor David Stanley, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I visited last year as deputy Mayor and both times I have been really impressed with the professional way this club is run.

“I was delighted when they told me they were making a donation to the Mayor’s charities. It is a wonderful addition to two very good causes and I would like to sincerely thank them all for their generosity.”

The club has over 450 boys and girls involved in teams ranging from under six to under 17, including a supported ability section for children with additional needs.  The club is run entirely by volunteers.
Next year the club, which plays its home games at May Macmaster Scout Group ground in Swindon Road, Wall Heath, is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Colin Worthington, the club chairman, said:

“We were really pleased the Mayor came down to support us. We chose the Mayor’s charities to donate the proceeds to because they are very worthwhile causes.”
