24 - New children’s book helps boost Mayor’s charities

The Mayor of Dudley’s charities are in line for a boost after a council worker penned a new children’s book to help raise funds.

Maren Lilley, who works as administrative assistant to the chief executive, has put together a book based around the adventures of The Netherteens.

In the book, The Netherteens, a group of youngsters from Netherton, solve crimes taking place at Wren’s Nest National Nature Reserve and Dudley Zoo.
The latest book is called Wren's Nest's Mysterious Paths, and is the tenth in the adventures of the Netherteens.

Staff at Northfield Primary school in Netherton heard about the book and requested a copy to read to children, while teaching them about the borough’s history.

Dudley Zoo has also received a copy, and Maren is busy selling the books to family, friends and council colleagues to help raise money for the Mayor’s charities – Dudley Alzheimer’s Society and the RNLI. Some of the proceeds will also go to Dudley Zoo.

Maren said:

“I wrote the book in my spare time and I hope it will raise awareness of the history in this area for children.

“It is also helping to raise some money for these very worthwhile charities.”

Maren has also included a glossary at the back of the book to tell the reader more about the sites visited in the story.

Councillor David Stanley, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“It is great to see our council staff working in their own time to help raise money for charity.”
