21 - Website success for teenagers

Teenagers are being encouraged to log onto a popular website for future study advice.

Fourteen2nineteen.com is an online prospectus set up by Dudley Council in conjunction with local partners. The website was launched in the Autumn and has received almost 650 hits in the last two months. The site provides comprehensive information on courses for 14-19 year olds at schools, sixth forms, colleges, training providers and other organisations.

The site includes useful links to other websites with help and advice for young people making decisions about future plans.  Fourteen2nineteen.com also encourages young people to contact Connexions personal advisers who are trained to offer further support.

Young people from across the borough were involved in the development of the site, which can also be used by parents and carers, teachers and other professionals to offer support to young people.

Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children services, said:

“The website is already proving to be a valuable tool in helping young people make important decisions about their future and it is great to see that the website has already generated so much interest.  I would encourage any young person needing help to make choices about future learning opportunities to visit the site or contact a Connexions personal adviser”.
