It’s business as usual for Stourbridge Library and Town Hall as work on a new temporary entrance gets underway as part of a multi million pound development.
Ownership of the Crown Centre and Bell Street Car Park recently transferred to developers Tesco who are set to create a £50million state-of-the-art store on the site.
Although no dates have been confirmed for when work on the development will start, works to create a new temporary entrance for the library and town hall will be developed over the next few weeks to facilitate the development.
Contractors Bowmer & Kirkland will have the new temporary entrance ready in the spring. Once completed visitors to all the council-run services within the building will enter via a new entrance on Market Street.
The library, town hall, register office and housing office will remain open for business as usual throughout these works.
The library is open Monday 9.30am to 7pm, Tuesday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 2pm.
Councillor Adrian Turner, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said:
“It’s important to stress that the library which includes the register office, housing office, and access to the town hall, will remain open for business throughout these initial works and during the development. The new entrance will be clearly signposted for visitors.
“We will work with Tesco and their contractors to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum during the development.”
