There are top tips for older people on how to lead a healthy lifestyle in a new and essential guide called Ageing Well in Dudley.
Council officers, councillors and representatives from Age Concern Dudley and Dudley PCT will be out and about next week to talk to older people and give them a copy of the guide, which is designed to act as signpost to key services, to help residents live a happy and fulfilled life in old age.
On Monday July 14 they will be at Dudley Library from 10am to 1pm and Halesowen Library from 2pm to 5pm. On Tuesday July 15 officers will go to Stourbridge Library from 10am to 1pm and Brierley Hill Library from 2pm to 5pm and to Russells Hall Hospital (main reception) on Friday July 18 from 10am to 4pm.
In the guide there are helpful hints and useful contacts on how to have a positive attitude, make the most of your money, exercise your body and mind, maintain independence and practical advice such as how to prevent accidents in the home and feel safe plus much more.
The guide was developed by Dudley Council, Dudley PCT, Age Concern Dudley and the forum of older people
Dudley PCT will also launch the new website www.ageingwelldudley.org next week, which again is designed to improve the health of older people by offering access to information on local and national services, opportunities and support.
Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for adult and community services, said:
“There’s a lot to do across the borough for people of all ages but Dudley Council wants to make sure older residents have fun as they get older and make the most of services available.
“The new guide will be available for free in libraries, GP surgeries and through Age Concern and I would urge older residents to stop by and pick one up”.
Sally Huband, chief officer at Age Concern Dudley, said:
“Age Concern Dudley is delighted to be involved in the development of this handbook. Our particular thanks go to the members of the forum of older people who have supported this project by sharing their views on the content, layout even the colour scheme.”
Rachel Harris, PCT Chairman, said:
“This is a practical, comprehensive book ideal to dip in and out of. It covers areas we don’t always talk about, which are personally important to us.”
Ageing Well in Dudley is also available online at www.dudley.gov.uk. The handbook is available in large print, Braille, on audio tape and in other languages.
