Borough residents can join in pond dipping, craft sessions and bat watching this August.
Residents can enjoy a pond dip and mini beast hunt in the woodland at The Leasowes on Wednesday 6 August from 10am to 12noon. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is essential on 01384 814642.
On Thursday 7, 14, 21 and 28August from 10am to 11.30am there are pond dipping sessions where participants can discover water-loving creatures. Each session has a maximum of 10 people and no dogs allowed. The session meets at Saltwells car park, off Saltwells Lane, Quarry Bank. Booking is essential on 01384 812795.
On Wednesday 13 August at 10am to 12noon there’s another chance to go to a supervised pond dip in Caves Pool. If the weather is warm, participants could spot water boatmen, mayfly larva, ramshorn snails and newts. The event is suitable for children aged 7 to 12, who must be accompanied and participants should wear wellies and bring along a net if possible. Also on Wednesday 13August from 10am to 12noon families can get creative about environmental art at The Leasowes using materials gathered on site. Children must be accompanied by an adult and booking is essential on 01384 814642.
Later on Wednesday 13 August from 9pm to 11pm, there’s another bat and moth session using moth traps and bat detectors to track these nocturnal creatures. This walk meets at Stourbridge College Horticultural unit at The Leasowes, accessible from Leasowes Lane, Off Manor Lane, Halesowen. Booking is essential on 01384 814642.
