7 - Council cash boost for community groups

Community groups across Dudley are celebrating receiving a share of a £46,200 windfall from Dudley Council.

More than 90 groups have received cash from the council’s Small Grants Scheme.

The Dudley Council scheme aims to provide groups of people across the borough with vital cash injections for new facilities and projects or to help with running costs.

Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for adult and community services, said:

“These community groups provide vital activities and support for hundreds of people across this borough.

“Every year we give these groups a helping hand by providing the opportunity to access small grants which can make a big difference.”

The Side by Side theatre company is just one of the groups to receive a grant. The group has just completed a production of The Bird and is planning to spend the money on running costs.

Other recipients included the University of the Third Age, which caters for retired people, and received £450 towards the room hire and tutors.

Dudley Chinese Community Association was also given £300, while The Smilers Club picked up £500, and both will use the cash to fund running costs.
