4 - Dudley motorists reminded to be smart parkers

Archived news release from 2008

Dudley Council will take over parking enforcement from police next week, in a move to help ease congestion and keep traffic on the borough’s roads moving.

From Monday (July 7), the council will become responsible for enforcing on-street parking across the borough, in addition to managing its public car parks.

The existing restrictions on the borough’s roads will remain the same following this transfer of responsibility, which will free police to concentrate on and direct resources to criminal matters.

Through civil parking enforcement, the council aims to tackle the congestion caused by illegal and inconsiderate parking which causes problems in our towns, whether you’re walking, driving, cycling or using public transport.

The council wants to encourage sensible and safe parking across the borough. This will make the borough’s towns safer for drivers and pedestrians and keep traffic flowing, making them more attractive to businesses and visitors.

It will also improve access for public transport, cyclists and emergency services, reduce pollution and improve air quality.

Councillor Angus Adams, cabinet member for transportation, said:
“Through civil parking enforcement the council will be able to tackle the illegal and inconsiderate parking which can so often bring our towns to a standstill.

“By reducing congestion we can make our towns more attractive and make them safer places for motorists and pedestrians. People should remember that the existing restrictions remain the same and if you are a driver who parks responsibly and legally, you really will not be affected by the change.”
