2 - Getting ready for a little shop of horrors

Young people from four Dudley schools are getting ready for their forthcoming new show.

Students from the schools of Kingswinford, Summerhill, Wordsley and Crestwood will star in the quirky musical Little Shop of Horrors at Brierley Hill Civic Hall on the July 18 and 19.

The Year 10 BTEC Performing Arts students will tell the story about Seymour Krelborn, a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood.  As the plant grows, Seymour discovers fame, fortune, and the girl of his dreams, Audrey but also has to cope with the plant’s blood thirsty desires.

Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services said:
“The students in the consortium have worked really well together and have gained so much from working with professional tutors.  I would like to wish to cast the very best wishes for this new production and continued success for their future careers.”

Evening and matinee performances of Little Shop of Horrors are available.  Tickets cost £8 with concessions £6 and are on sale from the box office on 01384 812812.

Note to Editors
The production is a culmination of a two year BTEC Young Apprenticeship Performing Arts course, funded by the Learning Skills Council, which has been a collaboration between the schools who are part of the Dudley West Consortium.  The students have been tutored by professional actors and directors, Chris and Lucy Key, and also engaged with many professional artists for master classes and workshops, as well as visiting several West End productions.  This production follows the successful sell-out show in April at the Grand Theatre, Showtime!
