Organisers of this year’s Youth Awards are calling for final nominations to be made to recognise young people across Dudley borough for their community spirit.
The awards deadline has been extended to 3 August so there is still time to get nominations in. Young people who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and courage, inspired others, achieved extraordinary results in sport and the arts or contributed to their local community can be put forward.
This year Dudley Youth Council (DYC) has decided to dedicate its award for community (individual) to the memory of much loved and respected youth worker, Rajpal Singh, who died suddenly in October last year. Rajpal inspired and helped to empower the young people he worked with.
The categories for nominations are sport, arts and entertainment, contributions to school/college, bravery and courage, and community group and community (individual). DYC hopes to make this fifth annual awards event their biggest and best ever. The oscar-style night in October will celebrate young people aged 11 to 18 who have made a big difference to other people. Members of Dudley Youth Council were presented with Volunteer Week certificates this month for all their hard work.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“Young people from across the borough need to have opportunities to be recognised for their contributions to their communities. The Dudley Youth Awards night is a glamorous evening of celebration and a deserving occasion to reward young people”.
Nomination forms are available from libraries, schools, youth centres and can be downloaded from www.dudley.gov.uk on the giving young people a voice page or just google Dudley Youth Awards. The extended deadline for nominations is 3 August.
