The Mayor of Dudley is reminding people about his traditional civic service this weekend.
Councillor Ray Burston, the borough’s first citizen, is holding his special Civic Sunday(July 6) event at St Margaret’s Church, Hagley Road, Hasbury, from 3pm.
Members of the public are invited to attend the service which is the traditional blessing of the new mayor by the church.
Other mayors from across the Black Country have also been invited to share in the occasion along with civic dignitaries and ex-servicemen.
A small civic procession will take place from neighbouring Hasbury CE Primary School into the church. The service will then be conducted jointly by Canon John Everest, the mayor’s chaplain and Father Rob Hall, parish priest. Refreshments will take place in the school hall after the service.
Councillor Ray Burston, Mayor of Dudley, said:
“The Civic Sunday service is something all mayors look forward to. It is part of the tradition and history of the role as the borough’s first citizen.
“I would love to see the church packed with people who can become part of the latest chapter in the history of Dudley mayors.”
