Dudley Council today issued information on how the proposed national strike this Wednesday and Thursday could affect council services.
Councillor Adrian Turner, cabinet member for personnel, said:
"We enjoy good employee relations in Dudley and are aware some staff will choose to take part in the national strike on July 16 and 17.
"Anyone planning a visit to council leisure centres, libraries, archives, museums, halls or adult learning centres should check with the venue before setting out.”
The council has been in negotiations with unions in relation to possible exemptions from the strike to ensure essential services continue to operate.
Meals on wheels will run as usual along with sheltered housing services, residential services for children and vulnerable adults and services for the most vulnerable homecare users. An emergency social work service will also be provided.
Council legal staff appearing in court cases, bereavement services, registration and celebratory services and school crossing patrols are also exempt.
Meanwhile the council has been made aware of five school closures. Old Park Special School, Rosewood Special School and Bromley-Pensnett Primary School will close on both days. Castle High School will be closed from 12.25pm on both days and Hillcrest School and Community College will be closed for pupils from 11.10am on both days.
