21 - Wordsley Library open day

Local residents are invited to Wordsley Library later this month to view exciting plans for its refurbishment.

Plans for the library include an extension, which will provide a new entrance and improved access and new modernised facilities to allow a wider range of activities to take place.

The plans are currently on display in the library but Dudley Council would like to hear local people’s views on what type of activities, events, books and services they would like available once the refurbishment is complete.

Residents can share their views at the library on Saturday July 26 from 9am to 1pm.

When the library re-opens it will be one of the first in the borough to introduce self service facilities, a new way for people to borrow, renew and return books.  There will be two self service kiosks with easy-to-use touch screen technology to free up staff time to carry out more customer focused work.

It will also extend its opening hours to six full days each week.

Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said:
“The refurbishment of Wordsley Green will bring about many changes but key to making those changes work is the involvement of the local community.  Through this consultation we hope to gain an insight into what people would like from their local library and build their thoughts into its overall development.”

The refurbishment forms part of the council’s programme to modernise Dudley’s library service.  Building work is due to start later this year and aims to be completed in early 2009.
