25 - Veterans Day in Dudley

Borough veterans will be given a salute of respect at the annual Veterans Day at Dudley Concert Hall on Friday (27 June).

The council led event, which will include music and displays, will be hosted by the Mayor of Dudley Councillor Ray Burston. It will give veterans an opportunity to meet with old comrades, get information and advice as well as a chance to talk to current service men and women.

The council will also hold a special presentation ceremony for veterans living in Dudley who haven’t yet been formally presented with their UK Armed Forces Veterans’ Badge. Veterans and relatives (including ‘Bevan Boys’ and Land Army Girls) who would like to find out more should contact Margaret Gregory on 01384 815201.

The event will be further marked in Dudley town centre’s High Street on Saturday (28 June). Attractions will include: military vehicles, a four piece jazz band and singer performing 1920s and 1940s music, World War II memorabilla from the Mid 42 group and face painting and balloon modelling for youngsters.

Councillor Ray Burston, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I hope as many veterans as possible will contact the council in the coming weeks and come along to the event.

“They will be able to meet up with old comrades, enjoy the entertainment on offer and have badges officially presented to them.

“Can I also remind everyone that this day is not only open to World War 2 veterans and I would like to extend a special invitation to anyone who has served in later campaigns, such as Northern Ireland, the Falklands, the Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan to come along too.”

The army recruitment caravan and the police community safety unit will also be in town on Saturday 28 June.
