3 - Top swim programme at Crystal

Crystal Leisure Centre is making great waves as part of a national programme to improve swimming programmes.

The Dudley Council led centre is undertaking the Amateur Swimming Association’s (ASA) national plan for teaching swimming, which uses high quality syllabus and award schemes.

Run alongside the Kellogg’s ASA awards scheme, the plan will support the development of swimming teachers who work at the centre by providing them with extra training and guidance.

The centre already runs a number of swimming lessons for over 2,000 people including disability groups, young people, parents and toddlers and the over 50s.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for culture and the environment, said:

“Crystal Leisure Centre is valued by many of our residents and we are totally committed to providing first class lessons.

“The ASA’s plan provides an excellent framework for swimming development which can be used to help teach swimmers and develop trainers at the Crystal centre.”
