Former pupils of a Halesowen school are being urged to come back to class to help celebrate its 70th anniversary.
The school bell at Olive Hill Primary is set to chime again for ex-classmates in a bid to find stories and pictures from its past.
It is part of a celebration of seven decades since the school was built.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“The school has a lot of history and I hope people will help add to that as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations.”
OliveHillCouncilSchool was opened in 1938, one of four schools built in the borough of Halesowen as a direct result of the 1902 Education Act giving control of education to County Councils and County Boroughs.
The new schools were built to serve a rapidly growing population, and although it took a few years to build all four, the new school building programme was eventually able to cater for a total of 2,160 pupils.
The school is holding an afternoon of celebrations on July 10, from 2pm. It will include tours of the school and a picnic in the grounds.
Claire Richards, extended service manager at Olive Hill, said:
“We are asking for former pupils, teachers and staff to write to us and tell us what it was like at Olive Hill in their day and perhaps dig out any old photos they may have. We would also like to invite them to join us on the day.”
