A flytipper who dumped his household waste in Stourbridge has landed a court bill of £545.
Richard Wharton, of Gauden Road, admitted two counts of the offence, which took place in January this year, when he appeared before Halesowen magistrates court on Monday (June 9).
He was identified after the furniture and other household waste, found in Pedmore Lane, was traced back to his address. In interview he admitted dumping the waste, saying he had gone to the tip at Kidderminster but, because he was in a van, could not get in.
On the way home he was driving down Pedmore Lane and decided to dump the waste.
The magistrates fined Wharton £150 for the first offence and £100 for the second offence and ordered him to pay £250 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:
“Flytipping ruins the environment for everyone and in Dudley we have no hesitation to prosecute those who carry out this anti-social behaviour.
“I would urge anyone who spots flytipping incidents to report them to the council and we will investigate and take action.”
Dudley Council’s civic amenity site, in Birmingham Street, Stourbridge, is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4.30pm.
