18 - Love parks week

Visitors are encouraged to pop along to two borough parks this weekend for events being held during national Love Parks week(June 14 to 22).

Huntingtree Park in Halesowen is hosting a free fun day for people of all ages on Saturday 21 June.   Black Country comedian, Tommy Munden, will officially get the event off to an entertaining start at 10.30am.

Children’s attractions will include a bouncy castle and slide, mask-making and facepainting and a 5-aside football tournament for local schoolchildren in the afternoon.

A crown green bowling competition, set to become an annual event, will also be held in the afternoon for members of the local club.  Refreshments will be available throughout the day, which runs from 10.30am 5pm.

As well as the fun activities local people will have an opportunity to have their say about future developments for the park.  The plans for the proposed improvements will be available to view and comments are welcome.

On both Saturday and Sunday Wordsley Wasps will host their sixth annual 5-a-side football tournament at King George V Park in Wordsley.  More than 100 teams have registered to play, with a knockout competition for the under 16s and a football fun day for the under 8s.

The event is now fully booked for entries but spectators are welcome to show their support and the action starts at 9.45am.  For more details about the event contact Bob Raybone on 07810 051799.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:

“There’s plenty of opportunity for people to get involved in their parks and I would encourage residents to go along and join in some of these activities.”
