12 - Major extension for Kingswinford Library

 

At the council’s cabinet meeting last night (Wednesday June 11) members were told the council has been successful in securing £444,000 from the Learning and Skills Council.  The money will be used to extend the library to the rear of the building to enable a range of adult learning activities to take place and improve parking on the site.

 

The new extension will allow the library to stock more books and to offer a wider range of activities, which it has been unable to do previously due to limited space.

 

The library service, along with the council’s adult and community learning team, will work with local residents to ensure the extended facility provides the services they would like.

 

The news comes following the announcement Kingswinford Library will extend its opening hours from Monday June 23, as part of the council’s library modernisation programme.  The library will open an additional 12 hours a week, including opening on Thursday and every weekday until 7pm.

 

“Kingswinford Library is popular with local residents and the successful bid will come as good news to its borrowers. 

 

“With the extension we will deliver a more comprehensive service in line with the library modernisation plans, which we hope will encourage more people to use the library who haven’t done so before.
