25 - New reflection garden

The Mayor of Dudley will open a new garden designed by students and featuring the four elements – earth, wind, fire and water next week.

Students from year 7 through to year 11 at Leasowes High School and Community College’s created the area, for reflection and relaxation, during the last year.

The transformation of the overgrown patch of land into a peaceful environment came about after student Phill Taylor, aged 16, secured £2105 from Dudley Youth Opportunities Fund.

Recycled materials have been used to create compost bins and planters and it is hoped vegetables will be able to be grown later in the year.   A solar powered water feature, greenhouse and art murals have also been installed.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Ray Burston, will officially open the garden at Kent Street, Halesowen at 11am on Friday 27 June.

Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services said:

“The students have worked extremely hard over the last twelve months transforming an unusable area into an enchanting garden that will benefit the whole school.”
