Sunday opening at two of the borough’s biggest libraries proved a hit this weekend as almost 120 visited when they opened their doors for the first time.
Dudley and Stourbridge were the first libraries to open last Sunday. In total 119 people visited the two sites to take out nearly 200 books, use the computer facilities and ask for help with information.
Both libraries will open from 10am to 2pm on Sundays and are also now open until 7pm on Wednesday evenings.
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said:
“This is a fantastic start to Sunday opening. The new opening times were a result of consultation with the public and to have more than 100 people through the doors on our first Sunday is a great result.
“Residents are reminded that this isn’t a one off. Dudley and Stourbridge Library will be open every Sunday from 10am to 2pm. If you struggle to get to a library in the week now is the perfect time to take advantage of this new development in the service”.
Sunday opening was introduced as part of Dudley Council’s library modernisation programme, which will extend opening hours across the library service by 75 hours each week. Sunday opening will be introduced at Halesowen, Brierley Hill and Sedgley libraries later in the year.
