Dudley Council is one of the top performers in the country for council tax collection, according to the latest figures.
The council collected 98 per cent of the amount due from borough taxpayers during 2007/8, which is an improvement on last year’s figure and higher than the average collection rate for metropolitan councils. Money is still rolling in as the council continues to chase outstanding debts.
The improvement is being linked to the 67,000 people paying their bills by direct debit, which is over 60 per cent of council taxpayers in Dudley.
Councillor Anne Millward, cabinet member for finance, said:
“Quality service matters and we are delighted with these excellent figures. They show our firm but fair approach to council tax collection is continuing to work.
“High council tax collection rates benefit everyone by reducing administration costs and ensuring the council’s spending programmes are properly funded.”
