Students from 17 Dudley schools have been getting to grips with the world of work.
Dudley Council’s fourteen2nineteen team together with Aimhigher gave more than 1200 pupils the chance to sample workbased learning at a recent event at RAF Cosford.
Over four days the year 10 pupils had the chance to get hands-on experience in four different types of work during the day including plumbing, health care, hospitality, carpentry and motor mechanics. The workshops were run by Stourbridge, Dudley and Halesowen colleges and work-based training providers including Nova Training, Future Skills and NHS.
The pupils will now get the chance to have a full day’s experience of their chosen area of work in September.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children services, said:
“These taster days give young people a chance to try their hand at work areas they may already be interested in or perhaps never thought about before. These sessions could help them make decisions about their future career path and are a valuable learning experience”.
